“Each day during filming of The Way We Were felt thrilling, powerful and completely magical,” she wrote. “We came from different worlds: he had a passion for riding; I couldn’t be near them! Nevertheless, we made an effort to find out more as people, just like the figures in the movie. His presence was captivating, intelligent, intense, always interesting—and one of the finest actors ever. The last time I saw him, when he came to lunch, we exchanged ideas on artistic expression and made plans to send each other our initial sketches. There was no one else like him and I feel deeply thankful to have had the chance to work with him.”
