Eulogies Pour In for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Remain Under Wraps.
Over a fortnight subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, the entertainment community continue to honor the couple.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, explained he finally felt ready to express about his deep grief.
"Adequate time has elapsed that I can at last put my grief into words," posted Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner left him smitten. "When we commenced sharing more moments together I knew this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor uploaded behind-the-scenes footage from the production, commenting that he cannot recall "any day without joy".
"The film is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Principles that Rob valued immensely. Which is among the many reasons he was the ideal person to direct it," Elwes wrote.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, saying: "To say that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I remember you." He concluded with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Friend and Collaborator
In a separate tribute, revered director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was very funny and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the lead role.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked seamlessly with his co-stars, and he understood the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Withheld
In a new development, a Los Angeles superior court judge decided to bar the disclosure of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, after an appeal from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A legal directive issued a security hold on the investigation to restrict the public release of "all case details, documents, files or images" connected to the active case.
The coroner's office had earlier stated their deaths were the outcome of homicide, with a public database listing the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Response and Criticism
After the deaths, public figures offered divergent reactions.
Ex-President Donald Trump posted on the matter, making divisive claims that were broadly criticized by numerous commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his criticism to the critics last week. Conversing on his program, Rogan described the comments as "shocking" and remarked they demonstrated a worrisome absence of compassion.
Rogan concluded by proposing that an associate ought to have stepped in when the impulse to comment on the passing was made.
